The flyer hovers above the palace roof and you jump down from it onto the wood slats, then swing over the edge of the roof and drop to the torch-lit balcony below. As you do so you are noticed by some people in the palace courtyard. There is an uproar. You see that silk curtains are spread across the entrance to the room. Parting them you enter a bedchamber. Inside, sitting on a large litter, swaddled in silks and furs, is Ogedai Khan, still weak from his illness. He looks up, his narrow eyes questioning your purpose. Golden statues, treasure chests and tapestries line the walls. The door opens and two men burst in, brandishing swords, alerted by the noise of the crowd. One is a member of the Khan's Imperial Guard, dressed immaculately in black and gold lacquered armour, the other an older man, a general or 'Noyan', wearing a simple wrap-around leather cloak lined with fur.
